 Gifu Prefecture, located in central Japan, is blessed with abundant traditional crafts such as Mino Pottery, Mino Japanese Paper, Gifu Paper Lanterns, Japanese Umbrellas, Shunkei Lacquer Ware and Japanese Candles. With a history of over 1,300 years, this region takes exceptional pride in being one of the largest producers of paper lanterns in Japan, with most modern Washi lamps today produced by artisans living in the region.

HAYASHI KOHGEI :
HAYASHI KOHGEI is an excellent manufacturer of Washi paper and lighting made from fine quality paper, using the traditional techniques of Gifu. Their head office is located in the Northern part of Gifu which is the birthplace of the Gifu paper lantern, near Mino city which produces the Mino Japanese Paper essential for their lamps. They have studios for producing paper, woodworking and ironwork in their factory, as they have persisted in producing every part in-house by their skilled artisans. Kenichiro Hayashi, the CEO of HAYASHI KOHGEI said, “We do our best to produce fine lamps which are full of warmth and contentment in order for people to feel a sense of closeness with paper lanterns . And we strongly hope our lamps help people to feel relaxed in their busy lives.” They have been exporting their lamps to many countries, and have been exhibited in “Maison & Objet” held in Paris, France, and the one in Italy.
