Shinya Fujii : Interior designer / Formative artist
Born in Osaka in 1969, he later established his own studio "atlier libero"
in 1998. He has won prizes at various exhibitions such as "The Japanese
Craft Exhibition". Besides interior items and monuments, he has designed
numerous commercial spaces including cafes and beauty salons.
His production method is very unique and differs completely from that of
other interior designers. He never thinks or decides on the design
beforehand but tries to feel the materials. As if conversing with them,
he listens carefully to the voice of the materials and so as not to overlook
their inherent beauty which may appear for a brief moment, perhaps accidentally
while he is shaving, hitting and bending them. Perhaps to call him a designer
is a misnomer as he pursues his craft with the creativity and poeticism of
an artist.
As his modern lamps and interior items come to life through the dual efforts
of the artist and the material itself, they provide a very soft feel and fit
naturally with any kind of modern living. They have adorned the interior of
restaurants, hotels and celebrities’ houses in Japan and abroad, in places
like the Maldives.
